Pre-Poll Commentary:
There are several ways to describe "being compassionate." For the purposes of this poll, we will describe a compassionate person as one who is sympathetic to the causes and interests of others. One who displays a full range of emotions and appears sensitive to the emotions of others.
Being a compassionate leader, will make others want to follow you. Genuinely compassionate leaders, especially in the business arena, are becoming quite rare today. Too many business leaders are under great pressure today, to produce unrealistic results for their shareholders. They have to make tough decisions to cut costs immediately and compassion takes a back seat to survival of their job and perhaps even the company.
On the other hand, Political Leaders are voted into office and although they have budgets to deal with, they are not pressured to make unrealistic profits like their counterparts in business. As citizens, we expect them to be more compassionate and really care about the people who vote them into office. Unfortunately, many of these leaders vie for political positions to obtain power and influence. They tell people what they want to hear when running for office and have short memories after elected when it comes to living up to their promises.
In this week's poll, let us know who you believe to be the "Most Genuinely Passionate Leader" in the news today. This poll will end on Sunday 12/21/03, when the results will be displayed.

Post-Poll Commentary:
We've conducted over 80 weekly polls to date and the results relating to being a "genuinely compassionate leader" were overwhelmingly in favor for George Bush and Joe Lieberman. Three others on our list barely hit the radar screen and Howard Dean didn't even get one vote. Perhaps if these candidates for our next presidential election were chosen only on how genuinely compassionate they were, it might be George vs. Joe in November 2004?
Along those lines, we should point out that being compassionate alone and lacking many of the other leadership qualities can spell disaster for an individual. Leaders should possess the right balance of the above qualities. We hope that our polls make you more aware of the importance of each quality. By doing so you may be inspired to learn, grow and practice the qualities that can make a huge difference in the success you achieve and the lifestyle you lead.
