Poll number:
85

Question-Week ending Sunday 03/07/04:

After which event on our list have you been able to savor in the enjoyment of the greatest feeling of calmness? Please read our Pre-Poll Commentary before taking this poll.

Pre-Poll Commentary:

Our sixth keyword in our poll series on moods and emotions is CALMNESS. For the purpose of this poll we will describe the meaning of this wonderful word as "serenity, tranquility, or peaceful." The wonderful feeling of calmness is definitely a mood or emotion that we all need as much of as possible added into our lives.

Too often, we are faced with stressful situations and events to deal with. Some may be challenges we impose on ourselves like making an important presentation or speech. Or perhaps engaging in a very important competitive event. Other stressful but exciting events can be proms, graduation days, wedding days or traveling overseas to far away countries. Some not-so-happy stressful events can take place in doctors' offices, pre and post surgery or funerals of loved ones.

When you put a pencil to it, there are far too many things that can stress us out, than we would like to think of. Thus, there's nothing better than the calmness we can enjoy after experiencing highly stressful events.

As we mature in life, we learn to cope with stress much better than when we are young and somewhat inexperienced. Life's experiences teach us best and prepare us to face challenges with more confidence. But it takes a person of wisdom to seek out and enjoy more calmness in their life. You need to plan serene and tranquil time into your schedule and savor the moments in a bubble bath, Jacuzzi or on a beach chair at the ocean. The place doesn't matter much. The plan and taking action to bring more calmness into our life is what counts.

In this week's poll, let us know what you think about enjoying calmness during your life. This poll will end on Sunday 03/07/04, when the results will be displayed.

Our polls and commentaries are enjoyed by hundreds of individuals weekly, with previous polls featured in the top ten of search engines like Google and Yahoo.

Post-Poll Commentary:

Almost a third or 30% of our respondents to this week's poll derived a wonderful feeling of calmness after completing a speech or presentation. Especially if the speech or presentation went well. Many individuals experience a great deal of anxiety for weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds - prior to presenting or speaking to an audience. This is understandable, since many polls show that people fear speaking in public more than dying. This being so, you can see why there can be an enormous feeling of calmness after completing a speech or presentation.

In a not too distant second place, 23% of our respondents savored in the calmness after their wedding day reception. One's (first) wedding day probably gets more attention and preparation to details than any other day or event in their entire life. Women in particular want everything to be perfect on that day. Typically during the year or more of planning, every "i" is dotted and "t" is crossed, in an effort to make sure that every detail is checked and double checked. When the wedding day finally arrives, there is so much non-stop excitement all day long. Thus, the hours immediately following this long planned event can generate an enormous feeling of calmness to savor in.

Our third place vote was taken by the calmness derived after having a baby. This is especially so after having a first child. Again, great anticipation followed by calmness. A close fourth place was the calmness felt after an important surgery. Again we find enormous stress and fear followed by calmness.

Rounding out the last two places were the feeling of calmness after a vigorous exercise workout and taking your first S.A.T. exams.

All of these events can exaggerate the degree of calmness we experience. Reflecting personally on this poll, I believe the feeling of calmness and "pleasure" derived after a tough exercise workout should be part of everyone's weekly routine. It not only promotes your mental and physical well being, but it gives you the opportunity to plan, enjoy and savor in the emotion of calmness often. Make the time to enjoy this great feeling!
