Poll number:
100

Question-Week ending Sunday, 06/06/04:

How often would you say, you truly experience the emotion of happiness? Please read our Pre-Poll Commentary before taking this poll.

Pre-Poll Commentary:

Our nineteenth keyword in our poll series on moods and emotions is HAPPINESS. For the purpose of this poll we will describe the meaning of HAPPINESS as "an agreeable feeling or condition of the soul - arising from good fortune; enjoyment; contentment; or joyful satisfaction."

It seemed like yesterday when I wrote an article titled. Is Happiness Eluding You? However, two years have quickly passed since that time. This article is one of the most clicked on articles on this website. Perhaps because everyone wants more happiness in their lives. If you never read it - why not take a moment to do so by clicking on the title link above. You'll be glad you did.

This poll is the 100th WEEKLY POLL I have conducted on this website, on various topics relating to living a happier and more fulfilling life. It's purely coincidental that I would be writing about HAPPINESS on my 100th poll. However, I must say that I am "VERY HAPPY" to be able to share my philosophies with my readers 100 times in the past couple of years. It's one of those HAPPY moments for me to savor!

DO YOU REALLY KNOW WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY? I ask this question to my clients often and most of them really have to think about what "really" makes them happy. Like all wonderful things about life, happiness is very elusive. When you think all is going well and happiness is right around the corner - something terrible seems to happen and that slippery emotion just seems to get away once again. Everyone seems to be on an endless search to find more happiness in their lives. They have a hard time identifying true happiness and thus can't seem to ever find it.

My contention in the article above is to learn and discover what makes you happy - and then set out to do exactly what you need to do. It could be giving a surprise gift to a loved one; or a $20 bill to a stranger in need. It could be helping an elderly woman with her groceries; or sitting in a Jacuzzi with sweet scented candles graciously filling the air. It could be buying a cone of ice cream for your kids; or taking your dog for a walk.

The point is to discover what happiness means to you - and then MAKE SURE it happens in your life. Don't wait for happiness to come to you. Go out and seek it.

Don't wait until you have more money, more time or more of anything. Seek out happiness RIGHT NOW. Always be grateful and plan the activities in your life, that make you experience that elusive emotion called happiness!

Let us know in this week's poll, how often you truly experience the emotion of HAPPINESS? This poll will end on Sunday, 06/06/04, when the results will be displayed.

Post-Poll Commentary:

According to the results of our poll this week, the emotion of Happiness may be less elusive than we may think. Only 7% of our respondents voted that they experience happiness less than once a week. However, I must add that I don't believe the sample of visitors to this site are a good indication of the masses. eHappyLife visitors are not typical of the general population. And eHappyLife Poll participants are just a slice of the total visitors and are more than likely the most highly motivated cross-section of all visitors. That all being said, I am still very impressed with the results.

I sincerely hope that this website can somehow contribute to my visitor's journey to learn about themselves. By doing so one can discover what conditions they can create to experience more happiness in their lives. Whether it's learning new skills; developing good habits; treating others with respect; connecting with spirituality; or building self-esteem.....by surrounding oneself with the conditions they want to produce - their life can be a WONDERFUL JOURNEY!
